CS2 economy: when to buy and when to save
How the CS2 economy works: round rewards, loss bonus, eco, force buy and full buy. Simple rules for team buys.
Economy decides matches as much as aim does. A coordinated team buy gives better chances than five players with random weapons.
💰 Key numbers
Starting money: $800 in the pistol round.
Round win: $3250 ($3500 for T by bomb detonation).
Loss bonus: grows with each consecutive loss: $1400 → $1900 → $2400 → $2900 → $3400 (max).
Bomb plant: +$800 to the whole T team even if they lose the round.
Money cap: $16,000.
📌 Buy types
Full buy: rifles, armor, full utility. Roughly $4000–5000 per player.
Eco: buy almost nothing so you can buy everything next round.
Force buy: spend everything on what you can afford — when the round is critical.
🎯 Simple rules
Buy together as a team: either everyone buys or everyone saves.
After losing the pistol round, teams usually eco.
Check your team's money on the scoreboard (Tab) before buying.
If a teammate is broke and you have extra, drop them a weapon (G after buying).
⚠️ Keep in mind
The loss bonus does not reset to zero after a win — it drops by one step. That is why saving your weapon and losing a round is sometimes better than losing everything.
