How to play CS2 on a laptop: settings and tips
How to get the most FPS out of a laptop in CS2: power, dedicated GPU, cooling, external monitor and mouse.
A laptop can run CS2 well, but by default it often runs in a power-saving mode. A few settings raise FPS a lot.
🔌 Power
Play with the charger plugged in — on battery, performance drops sharply.
Windows power mode: "Best performance".
In the laptop maker's app (Armoury Crate, Lenovo Vantage, etc.) pick the gaming / performance profile.
🖥️ Dedicated GPU
Settings → System → Display → Graphics → add
cs2.exe→ High performance. If your laptop has a MUX switch (dedicated-GPU-only mode), enable it — it gives extra FPS.
🌡️ Cooling
Do not put the laptop on a bed or your lap — it blocks the air intakes.
Use a cooling pad.
Clean the dust out once a year.
🎯 Comfort
Use an external mouse — you cannot play on a touchpad.
If possible, plug an external monitor into the port wired to the dedicated GPU.
⚠️ Tip
Check temperatures while playing: if the CPU or GPU overheats, FPS will drop after 10–15 minutes.
