D3D11 and DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED errors in CS2
What the "Failed to create D3D11 device" and "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" errors mean in CS2 and how to fix them: driver, overclocking, power and Vulkan.
These errors mean the game lost contact with the graphics card or could not start it. The cause is almost always the driver or GPU stability.
📌 Failed to create D3D11 device
The game cannot create a graphics device at launch.
Update your graphics driver.
Make sure the game runs on the dedicated GPU, not integrated graphics.
Remove graphics-related launch options.
Try the
-vulkanlaunch option.
📌 DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU "dropped out" during play — the driver reset.
Remove overclocks on the GPU and memory (MSI Afterburner, vendor tools). Even factory overclocks are sometimes unstable — try lowering clocks by 50–100 MHz.
Do a clean driver install with DDU.
Check GPU temperatures.
Check the power supply: if it is too weak, the GPU resets under load.
🖥️ Power cables
Make sure the GPU's power cables are fully seated and, if the GPU maker recommends it, use separate cables rather than one daisy-chained cable.
⚠️ If it happens in other games
If the same error appears in other games too, the problem is most likely hardware — the GPU or power supply.
