How to reset CS2 settings to default

A reset helps if the game behaves strangely after config experiments: binds are gone, crosshair or graphics are broken.

🔧 Method 1: reset in the menu

Many settings sections have a "Reset" button (for example, key bindings and video). It restores defaults only for that section.

📌 Method 2: full reset via files

• Close CS2 completely.

• Open the folder:

Steam\userdata\YOUR_ID\730\local\cfg

• Move all files from there into a separate folder (this is your backup).

• Delete or rename your autoexec.cfg in game\csgo\cfg.

• Remove launch options in Steam.

• Start the game — it will create new files with default settings.

☁️ Steam Cloud

If cloud saves are enabled, Steam may restore the old settings. Before resetting, disable CS2 Properties → General → Steam Cloud, and turn it back on after the first launch.

⚠️ Tip

Do not delete files permanently — keep a copy. That way you can restore specific settings such as your crosshair or binds.
