How to record a CS2 moment: Steam Game Recording and screenshots
How to record clips and take screenshots in CS2 with Steam's built-in tools, no third-party software needed.
To save an ace or a funny moment you do not need third-party software — Steam has built-in game recording.
🎥 Steam Game Recording
Steam → Settings → Game Recording.
Choose a mode:
Record in background — Steam keeps the last minutes of gameplay, and you save the moment after it happens.
Record manually — recording starts and stops with a hotkey.
Assign hotkeys to start recording and save a clip.
📌 How to save a clip
Open the Steam overlay (Shift + Tab) → recordings section.
Select the part you want and save it as a clip.
You can export the clip as a video file or share a link.
📸 Screenshots
Press F12 — Steam saves a screenshot.
All screenshots are in Steam → View → Screenshots.
🎯 Tip
Background recording puts a little load on your system. If FPS drops, lower the recording quality in settings or use manual recording.
