Packet loss in CS2: causes and fixes
What packet loss is in CS2, how to detect it and how to fix it: cable, router, buffering setting and line checks.
Packet loss means part of the data between you and the server does not arrive. It shows up as teleporting enemies, shots that do not register and rubber-banding.
📌 How to detect it
Enable Settings → Game → Telemetry → Packet loss.
Any value above 0% means a problem.
Red connection quality icons next to the telemetry also indicate loss or spikes.
🔧 What to do
Switch to a cable instead of Wi-Fi — this fixes most cases.
Replace the cable and try another router port.
Restart your router and update its firmware.
Disable VPNs and programs that intercept traffic.
Update your network driver from your motherboard maker's website.
🎯 Smoothing packet loss in CS2
Settings → Game → "Buffering to smooth over packet loss" — choose One packet or Two packets. It adds a little delay but removes jerks during occasional loss.
🖥️ Line check
Run this in Command Prompt:
ping -n 100 8.8.8.8
At the end you will see the "Lost" line. If it is above 0%, the problem is your network, not the game — contact your ISP.
⚠️ Tip
If you have loss on one server only and not on others, the problem is on the server side or on the route to it.
