Mouse stutters or feels floaty in CS2: causes and fixes
Why your crosshair moves in jerks or with delay in CS2 and how to fix it: polling rate, USB port, surface, wireless interference and FPS.
If your crosshair moves in jerks, feels "floaty" or sometimes skips movement, the cause can be the mouse, the PC or your settings.
🔧 Check the mouse
Clean the sensor of dust and hair.
Check your mousepad: sensors work poorly on glossy or glass surfaces.
Plug the mouse into another USB port — ideally directly into the motherboard at the back, not a hub or the front panel.
📌 Polling rate
Set 1000 Hz in your mouse software.
Very high rates (4000–8000 Hz) can cause stutter on a weaker CPU — try going back to 1000 Hz.
📶 Wireless mouse
Move the receiver closer to the mouse — use the included extension.
Keep your Wi-Fi router and other wireless devices away from the receiver.
Check the battery — low charge can worsen response.
🖥️ System
Check your FPS: with big drops, mouse movement also looks jerky.
Disable "Enhance pointer precision" in Windows.
Update the mouse driver or software.
⚠️ Tip
Test the mouse in another game or on another PC. If it stutters there too, the mouse itself is the problem.
