Infinite map loading in CS2: how to fix

If CS2 hangs on the loading screen or cannot load a map, the problem is usually game files, shaders or the connection.

⏳ First load after an update

After a game or driver update, the first map load can take several minutes while shaders compile. Give it time before closing the game.

🔧 What to do

• Verify game files in Steam.

• Make sure the game is on an SSD — on an old HDD loading is much slower.

• Free up space: you need at least 10–20 GB free.

• Close programs that hammer the drive (downloads, antivirus scans).

🌐 If it hangs connecting to a server

• Try another server — the problem may be on its side.

• Reset DNS: ipconfig /flushdns in Command Prompt.

• Turn off your VPN.

🗺️ Community maps

On servers with Workshop maps, the game downloads the map first. With slow internet or Workshop problems the load can hang. Subscribe to the map in the Workshop in advance.

⚠️ If nothing helps

Remove launch options and reset graphics settings by deleting cs2_video.txt from your settings folder.
