Float and skin quality in CS2: what they mean
What a skin's float is in CS2, the wear levels, what StatTrak and Souvenir items are, and how to check the float.
Two identical skins can look and cost different amounts. The main reason is the float, i.e. the wear value.
📌 Wear levels
The float is a number from 0 to 1. The lower it is, the "newer" the skin looks.
Factory New: 0.00–0.07
Minimal Wear: 0.07–0.15
Field-Tested: 0.15–0.38
Well-Worn: 0.38–0.45
Battle-Scarred: 0.45–1.00
Some skins have a limited float range — for example, they never come in Factory New.
🔧 How to check the float
Open the item in your CS2 inventory and click Inspect — the float and pattern are in the description.
On the Steam Market, click Inspect in Game.
🎨 Pattern
The pattern number decides how the design sits on the weapon. For some skins (Case Hardened, Fade, Doppler, etc.) the pattern strongly affects the look and price.
🏷️ StatTrak and Souvenir
StatTrak™ — the weapon has a counter of your kills.
Souvenir items drop from tournament souvenir packages and carry team stickers.
⚠️ Tip
Always inspect an expensive skin in game before buying — wear is often hard to see in screenshots.
