How to move silently in CS2: footsteps, landing and ladders
Which actions make noise in CS2 and how to sneak up on enemies: walking, crouching, jumping, ladders and reloading.
Sound in CS2 is information. The enemy hears your footsteps and knows where you are. Moving silently gives you the element of surprise.
🔇 What makes no footstep sound
Walking (Shift) — you move slower, but your steps are silent.
Crouching (Ctrl) — also silent, but even slower.
🔊 What gives you away
Running — footsteps are heard from far away.
Landing after a jump — even while walking.
Falling from a height — a loud sound plus damage.
Ladders — climbing up and down is audible unless you hold Shift.
Reloading and switching weapons, scoping with the AWP.
Picking up and dropping weapons, planting and defusing the bomb.
🎯 When to walk
When approaching a spot where an enemy might be.
When you want to flank from behind (lurker).
In a clutch, so the enemy cannot tell where you are coming from.
⚠️ When to run
Walking is too slow for rotations and executes. If the enemy already knows where you are, run — speed matters more than silence.
