How to be an in-game leader (IGL) in CS2: the basics
The basics of the IGL role in CS2: choosing tactics, mid-round calls, managing the economy and keeping the team calm.
The IGL (in-game leader) makes decisions for the team: where to go, what to buy and how to respond to the enemy.
📌 IGL's job
Pick a round plan before the round starts.
Make mid-round calls: change direction if the info changes.
Manage the team's economy: eco, force or full buy.
Keep the team calm and motivated.
🔧 How to start
Learn 2–3 simple tactics per map: a default, a fast hit on A and on B.
Before the round, keep it short: "Default, we go B at 40 seconds."
Decide quickly — a bad decision made on time beats a good one made too late.
🎯 Reading the enemy
Remember how the enemy defends: where the AWP sits, how fast they rotate.
If they rotate on sound a lot, use fakes.
💬 Communication
Speak confidently and briefly.
Do not scold teammates for mistakes mid-round.
⚠️ Tip
An IGL does not have to be the best shooter. Understanding the game and uniting the team matter more.
