Sounds in CS2: what they mean and how to read them
Which sounds give you info in CS2: footsteps, reloads, armor, grenades, the bomb and defusing. How to tell where the enemy is by sound.
Sound in CS2 is a constant stream of information. Experienced players know where the enemy is before they see them.
👣 Footsteps and movement
Running — heard from far away; tells you direction and roughly how many enemies.
Landing after a jump and falling — loud sounds that give away a position.
Ladders and different surfaces (metal, wood) sound different — this tells you where the enemy is walking.
🔫 Weapons
Reloading — the enemy cannot shoot right now; it is your moment to peek.
AWP scope sound — a sniper is nearby and ready to shoot.
Picking up a weapon — the enemy is close and changing gear.
💣 Bomb and grenades
Bomb beeps get faster closer to the explosion.
The defuse start is clearly audible — time to stop the CT.
The pin being pulled — the enemy is about to throw a grenade.
🎯 How to hear better
Play with stereo headphones.
Turn music down in the audio settings.
Do not talk in voice chat while a teammate is clutching.
⚠️ Tip
If you can hear the enemy but they cannot hear you, you have the advantage. Walk when an enemy might be close.
