Cooldowns in CS2: what causes them and how to avoid them
What gets you a temporary matchmaking ban (cooldown) in CS2: leaving matches, team damage, kicks. How long it lasts and how not to get it again.
A cooldown is a temporary ban from queuing for competitive modes. It is given for actions that ruin the game for others.
📌 What causes a cooldown
Abandoning a match or a long disconnect without returning.
Damaging or killing teammates.
Being vote-kicked for misbehaving.
Being AFK at the start of rounds.
Declining found matches several times in a row.
⏳ How long it lasts
The first cooldown is usually short — around 30 minutes. Repeated offenses increase it: hours, a day, a week. After some time without offenses the counter gradually resets.
🔧 If you disconnected by accident
Restart the game — a "Reconnect" button appears in the main menu.
Rejoin as fast as possible before the reconnect timer runs out.
🎯 How to avoid cooldowns
Do not start a match if you are short on time.
Check your connection before playing.
Do not shoot teammates even as a joke, and do not stand in their molotovs.
⚠️ Important
Frequent cooldowns lower your Trust Factor. That makes your matchmaking worse even after the ban ends.
