How to choose a mouse and mousepad for CS2
What to look for when choosing a gaming mouse and mousepad for CS2: shape, weight, sensor, polling rate and pad size.
The mouse is your main tool in CS2. An expensive model will not improve your aim by itself, but an uncomfortable one definitely holds you back.
🖱️ Mouse
Shape and size matter most. The mouse should feel comfortable with your grip (palm, claw or fingertip).
Weight — light mice (under 70 g) are easier to move quickly. If you are used to a heavy one, do not switch abruptly.
Sensor — all modern gaming mice have accurate sensors. Do not pay extra for marketing DPI numbers.
Polling rate — at least 1000 Hz.
Cable — if wired, the cable should be soft and not drag. Wireless gaming mice now match wired ones in latency.
🎯 DPI
Set 400, 800 or 1600 DPI and adjust in-game sensitivity. Most players use 400 or 800.
🧱 Mousepad
Size — low sensitivity needs a large pad (45 cm wide or more).
Surface: cloth "control" pads help you stop precisely, "speed" pads glide faster.
The pad should lie flat and not slide.
⚠️ Tip
After buying a new mouse, give yourself a week to adapt before deciding if it suits you.
