If FPS in CS2 is fine at first but drops after 10–20 minutes, a common cause is overheating. Hardware lowers its clocks to protect itself.

🔧 How to see temperatures

  • MSI Afterburner with RivaTuner — shows CPU and GPU temperatures in game.

  • HWiNFO — detailed monitoring of every sensor.

  • Task Manager → Performance shows the GPU temperature.

📌 What is normal

  • GPU under load: usually up to 80–85 °C.

  • CPU under load: most models up to 85–90 °C.

  • Higher values plus dropping FPS mean thermal throttling.

Exact limits depend on the model — check the manufacturer's site.

🧹 How to fix overheating

  • Clean the dust out of fans, heatsinks and filters.

  • Replace thermal paste if it is more than 2–3 years old.

  • Ensure airflow — do not push the case against a wall.

  • Use a cooling pad for laptops.

🎯 Quick fix

Cap your FPS (fps_max) slightly above your refresh rate — hardware works less hard and runs cooler.

⚠️ Tip

If temperatures suddenly rose after long trouble-free use, check that the fans are spinning.
