CS2 compiles shaders on every map

If you find that CS2 compiles shaders on every map and loading into the game takes forever, the fix should be simple. It also applies if CS2 shader compilation takes too long whenever it happens.

  • Close Counter-Strike 2 and Steam completely.

  • Go to the following path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\shadercache\730.

  • Delete all files inside this folder, but don't delete the folder itself. These are your shader cache files, but we are not done yet.

  • Clear your graphics card's shader cache. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, you can do it through the NVIDIA Control Panel with the following steps.

  • In the NVIDIA Control Panel open "Manage 3D settings" and find the "Shader Cache" setting. Set it to "Off" (Disabled).

  • Open the %localappdata% folder via the Run command (Win + R). Find the NVIDIA folder and open the DXCache and GLCache folders inside it.

  • Delete the contents of both folders (don't delete the folders themselves).

  • Go to Steam and right-click Counter-Strike 2 in your library. Open "Properties" and on the "Local Files" (or "Installed Files") tab click "Verify integrity of game files".

  • Wait for the check to finish and all required files to download. Restart your computer and launch the game again.
